2008 Proposed Mill Levy Override and Bond Overview

On Aug. 20, 2008, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education voted to place a $9.9 million mill levy override for school operations and an $80 million bond for school buildings on the Nov. 4 ballot.

UPDATE: On Nov. 4, 2008, voters in the Five Star District passed 3A, the $9.9 million mill levy override, with 51.12 percent of the vote. 3B, the $80 million bond was not approved.

 2008 Budget Outlook

$9.9 Million Mill Levy Override - $289 per student

  • Limit class size increases
  • Retain high quality teachers
  • Provide students with up-to-date textbooks and educational technology
  • Sustain current bus services
  • Keep individualized teacher support for struggling students
  • Preserve the district's rigorous graduation requirements
  • Meet the needs of second language learners
  • Offset the increased cost of utilities, fuel and healthcare

The proposed mill levy override (3A) costs $3.72 per month per $100,000 of home value.

$80 Million Bond - 47 existing schools, two new schools

  • Build two new elementary schools
  • Upgrade security systems at existing schools
  • Replace obsolete computers and upgrade technology networks at existing schools
  • Repair and renovate existing schools
             Improve classrooms and interior space
             Improve safety of playgrounds
             Upgrade and repair mechanical/electrical systems
             Perform exterior site work and repair

The proposed bond (3B) does not raise the tax rate.
