Educating children is a people-intensive process. The largest share of any school district's budget goes to personnel. As the largest employer in Adams County, the Five Star District has 5,000-plus employees who serve nearly 43,000 students. Following is a breakdown of Adams 12 Five Star Schools general fund expenditures by object for fiscal 2010-2011. These percentages do not include reserves or charter school allocations.

Personnel costs (salaries and benefits) account for 88 percent of the 2010-2011 general fund budget. These salaries include not only teachers but also the support personnel whose jobs ensure teachers can focus their attention on students.
