Hillcrest Elementary celebrates 50th anniversary
Hillcrest Elementary is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a carnival, slideshow and memorabilia. The event will be held Thursday, May 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria at 10335 Croke Dr. in Northglenn.

Horizon and Mountain Range High Schools have extended the application deadline for select special programs at each school.
Prom Dress Exchange helps make special occasion affordable
Prom is just around the corner for thousands of students, and the greater Denver community wants to make this special night more affordable for students. The 2013 Prom Dress Exchange helps provide students with a spectacular one-of-a-kind outfit. A valid student ID and $10 donation will provide access to the event and an outfit.
The 2013 Prom Dress Exchange will take place Saturday, March 16, 2013, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, 6000 Victory Way in Commerce City.
District schools were placed on precautionary lockout this morning
Earlier this morning schools were in a precautionary lockout. Credible information was reported through Safe2Tell involving a disgruntled dairy company employee who delivers to our schools. Information was immediately relayed to local law enforcement and district officials. No students were in danger the lockout was lifted as soon as the driver was located a short time later.
Join the Five Star Foundation’s Roaring ‘20s Variety Show gala
Join the Five Star Education Foundation for a night celebrating the 1920s in style at Denver’s vineyard in the city. The gala will be held Thursday, Feb. 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Balistreri Vineyards Event Center, 1946 East 66th Ave., in Denver. Festivities for the evening include entertainment from Five Star students, wine tasting, dinner, a live auction and more.
Board of education conditionally approves COVA renewal application
At its regular meeting of Feb. 6, 2013, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education conditionally approved COVA to operate a charter school from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014 so long as COVA delivers to the district no later than noon on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, a contract that is agreeable to the district.

I want to follow-up with you on last night’s media report concerning the budget in Adams 12 Five Star Schools. Much of the news story was inaccurate, unfair and incomplete. I hope to clear up some misrepresentations that I believe will help build understanding.
