Learning Services

The Adams 12 Five Star School District, with nearly 39,000 students and more than 5,000 staff members, has established itself as a successful and respected school district. Current data suggests that, in most ways, the district and Learning Services, are realizing their organizational and student learning goals:

  • For the last three years, the district has demonstrated significant academic growth on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) tests. In 2007, the district made gains on the majority of the state's 27 CSAP tests. And in 2005 and 2006, the Five Star District made the most gains on the CSAP as compared to all other school districts in metro Denver.
  • Since 2004, the district has more than tripled the number of schools rating "high" or "excellent" on the state's School Accountability Report.
  • For the fourth year in a row the district has met more than 90 percent of the federal targets for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

While the Five Star District has experienced impressive academic growth; staff, students, parents and community members recognize there's more to be done. In an effort to build upon this success, the district initiated a comprehensive self-assessment of its instructional and organizational practices. The self-assessment executive summary (PDF) identifies strengths and assets of the district, along with priority recommendations for improvement that came from this process.
