Hybrid bus increases fuel economy 70 percent, reduces carbon dioxide emissions 40 percent

Adams 12 Five Star Schools put into operation Colorado's first-ever hybrid school bus on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009. Test results indicate several environmental benefits to this hybrid bus technology including a 70 percent increase in fuel economy and a 40 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The purchase of the hybrid school bus was made possible in part through an alternative fuels rebate from the State of Colorado.

Sarah Hayden's third-grade class from Hillcrest Elementary in Northglenn took the hybrid bus' inaugural trip when they visited the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Before the field trip, the class studied the climate and environment, including hybrid technology.
