The School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP)
What is SWAP?
SWAP's mission is to serve and enrich the lives of young adults (ages 16 to 25) with mild to moderate barriers to employment by assisting them in obtaining successful career-path employment. Our goal is to help these youth succeed in the sometimes difficult transition from school to the workplace, and become successfully employed in the community.
The School to Work Alliance Program is a cooperative effort between Adams County School Districts 1, 12, and 27J, and the Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
What Does SWAP Offer to Young Adults?
- Assess vocational interests and skills
- Teach basic employment skills
- Conduct practice interviews
- Assist with job search and placement
- Offer job coaching
- Assist with job retention
- Provide one-year follow-up
- Enhance future employability
What Does SWAP Offer to Employers?
- A pool of job-ready candidates
- A Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) or stipend for each SWAP participant
- Monitoring of participant's performance by SWAP professional staff
- Job coaching, as needed
- An opportunity to become involved with the local community and schools
Who Participates in the SWAP program?
Most SWAP Youth:
- Are between the ages of 16 and 25
- Have a mild to moderate disability
- Have graduated from high school, are close to graduating, are at risk of dropping out, or have dropped out
- Have some degree of difficulty finding meaningful employment
- Possess a strong desire to perform meaningful work in their communities
SWAP is an Innovative Program Designed to:
- Assist young adults with special needs in becoming involved in a meaningful way with their communities
- Enhance the employability of these individuals
- Involve area businesses in community partnerships
- Help pave the way for careers that support independence and satisfaction
