We'd love to hear your thoughts!
Did you know, a well-nourished student has better attendance, is more attentive, better behaved, has an increased energy level, and overall is more likely to be academically successful? For all of these reasons, Adams 12 Five Star Schools is committed to serving approximately 15,000 nutritious, well-balanced meals every day to students and staff.
Adams 12 participates in the National School Lunch Program, National Breakfast Program (select sites), After School Snack Program (select sites), and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (select sites). All of these programs are striving to help students develop sound nutritional habits by exposing them to a variety of foods every day. We offer many food choices and provide healthful fruits and vegetables daily.

School Meals are Safe
Food safety is a primary concern for us. We have implemented a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Program throughout the district to reduce the chance of a food-borne illness event. Temperatures of all food products are monitored throughout receiving, production, and service. All of our meats are pre-cooked in order to avoid food-borne illnesses through cross-contamination from raw meat.
School Meals are Nutritious
School meals meet strict nutritional guidelines which are set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). All meals contain less than 30% total calories from fat, less than 10% total calories from saturated fat and meet at least one third of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein, vitamins A & C, iron, calcium and calories. In addition, we highlight a different fruit or vegetable each month through our Harvest of the Month program. We develop new, fresh recipes each month which feature the Harvest of the Month as a way to expose students to a variety of fruits and vegetables.
School Meals are Balanced
School meals involve the choice of 2 entrees at elementary and middle school. High School students have 3 to 5 entree choices available each day. A variety of fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, fresh whole wheat dinner rolls, and 1% or fat free white or chocolate milk are available daily.
School Meals are Student-Focused
When we are considering adding new items to the menu, we provide samples for students and request their feedback. We also pay close attention to the menu items that are most popular with students versus those that produce a lot of waste. We are continually changing the menu to meet the needs of our students.
Parents are Welcome!
We invite you to come and try our meals for yourself! Parents are always welcome! We are proud of our program and our hard-working employees, and we encourage you to eat with your child. As your child sees you modeling what a healthy school meal can look like they may be more inclined to try a new fruit or vegetable. Nutrition Services invites all parents to have lunch with their child/children at any time during the school year. The cost is just $3.50 for an adult meal. We hope to see you soon!
