Kindergarten Guide Spanish

Registration for full or half-day kindergarten at Title I schools (depending on what is offered at each school) begins January 30th and runs through the first day of school in August 2012.  To register at one of these schools, you must either live within the boundary of that school and provide two proofs of residence or be approved for Choice to attend one of our Title schools, provided they are open to Choice.  For registration times at each of the following Title I schools, please contact the school directly:  Coronado Hills, Federal Heights, Hillcrest, Malley Drive, McElwain, North Mor, North Star, Rocky Mountain, Stukey and Thornton Elementary.

Only tuition-based, extended day kindergarten will be offered at the four Adams 12 Magnet Schools (Hulstrom Options, STEM Lab, STEM Launch and The Studio School).  Because these schools only offer tuition-based, extended day kindergarten, limited scholarships for students that receive free or reduced lunch will be available.  You must apply and be approved to the magnet school(s) through the Choice program before any registration process can take place.  For information on how to apply to these schools, please visit http://www.adams12.org/choice_schools

Registration for half-day kindergarten begins January 30th.  Registration is at each elementary school.  For times, please contact your boundary school.

Priority registration for the tuition-based, Extended Day Kindergarten Program begins January 30th and runs through February 10th.  Registration is at each elementary school.  The following schools will be offering space availability for tuition-based, Extended Day Kindergarten:

If you are not placed in your boundary school’s program but would still like a full-day program, the district will make every effort to place you in the school nearest to your residence.  For registration times, please contact your boundary school.  After February 10th, registration for the Extended Day Kindergarten Program can still be taken at your boundary school through the first day of school in August 2012.  The school options at that time will be dependant on the space available.

Out-of-boundary or out-of-district families that would like to attend an Extended Day Kindergarten Program may apply at any elementary school listed above.  Placement into an Extended Day program will be dependent on space availability.  Students will be placed following a three-tiered priority with the first priority going to boundary students, second priority to in-district students and third priority to out-of-district students.

Tuition for each Extended Day Kindergarten Program throughout the Adams 12 Five Star School District will be $300 per month.  A $50 registration fee is due upon acceptance into the program by February 24th and the balance of $250 will be due by March 15th.  This $300 will be applied toward the May 2013 tuition payment.  Any student for which a registration fee has not been deposited by February 24th may be removed from the extended day class roster and their space will be given to the next student on the wait list.

Children must be 5 years old on or before October 1, 2012 in order to enter kindergarten.

If you have any questions regarding Kindergarten registration, please call your boundary school or Nancy Bunjes in the Schools of Choice/Enrollment Office 720-972-4055 or email her at nancy.bunjes@adams12.org.

2012-13 Kindergarten Early Entrance

Early Entrance Brochure

The District recognizes that some children may benefit academically, socially and/or emotionally from Early Entrance into Kindergarten. Due to the academic demands of accelerating a student into kindergarten, students are screened using a number of nationally recognized assessments to determine whether kindergarten is an appropriate fit for each student applicant. Parents may submit applications from December 1st through March 1, 2012 for consideration by District staff.

This process was established to meet the needs of children whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs.

Applicants are children who do not meet the kindergarten cut-off date of October 1st, and exhibit advanced academic achievement, consistent attendance, positive attitude toward acceleration, intelligence, and maturity. These students exhibit a need to begin their kindergarten experience early.

Once an application is submitted, the District GT Department will call to set up an appointment with a group of other applicant children. The maximum group size will be 8. The children will spend approximately 3 hours with a team of GT and/or Preschool professionals going through various assessments to gather data on the child. At the conclusion of the screening, the team will set up an individual appointment with the child for IQ testing with a district licensed school psychologist. Once all testing is concluded, a testing report will be mailed to you. How to Begin

  1. Submit Kindergarten Early Entrance application to District Gifted & Talented Department.
  2. Complete the parent survey and have the preschool survey completed if appropriate.
  3. The GT department will call to set up appointment for screening process.

Please call Gifted & Talented at 720-972-4272 if you have any questions.
