Celebrations continue in October for completed bond work

Bollman, The Studio School showcased upgrades

As the final touch-ups from a busy summer of bond work continued across the Five Star District, October was an opportunity for continued celebrations of transformative work at multiple schools.

Five Star Schools Summer 2019 Bond Thank You

This past's summer renovation, part of $2.2 million in bond improvements for the The Studio School, solidifies the former gym as a dedicated performance space for students. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony in a spruced-up theater lobby area, students, families and community members flooded into the room filled complemented by vibrant colors; new retractable auditorium seating that still provides versatility; a new sound system; new flooring and new theatrical rigging. 

The bond also provided money to envision a larger commitment to the school as an hub for arts education. Money was allocated for an alreadyconceptual design of a 400-seat auditorium addition to the school that could be built through future public and private funding initiatives.

Bollman Technical Education Center

On Oct. 24, Bollman Technical Education Center in Thornton also celebrated the completion of a big summer of bond improvement work. The school received the first phase about about $12 million in bond improvements planned for the 47-year-old building. The new look included an updated automotive technology area; a dedicated student commons and a new MakerSpace and engineering lab. Bollman also received improvements to critical building system improvements such heating and air conditioning upgrades and security upgrades. 

The Oct. 24 event featured student student and staff-led tours of the new spaces and the opportunity for interested business and community members to learn more about partnering to support the Five Star District's many career pathways.

The district is in the midst of a Career and Technical education expansion thanks to community support of the 2016 Bond Program. In addition to the Bollman renovations, a second CTE campus - FutureForward at Washington Square - is currently under construction and scheduled to open in the 2020-2021 school year.
