Cotton Creek construction accelerates in February
Expansion being built for 2018-19 school year
Site challenges that slowed initial progress on the Cotton Creek expansion were left behind in February as construction accelerated on the project.
Drilling and pouring of foundational caissons finished in February, which allowed work to begin on the preparation and pouring of concrete grade beams and foundation walls for the Westminster school's 14,000-square-foot addition. By the end of the month, the concrete slab had been poured for the elevator shaft with work starting on the walls. Work was expected to begin in early March on underground plumbing. Once foundation work is finished, construction can shift to the installation of structural steel. According to the current construction timeline, steel work is expected to begin in mid to late March.
Cotton Creek Elementary will add eight classrooms with the expansion. The expansion will allow the school to move students out of modular classrooms. The school will also receive substantial improvements to the existing building. It is scheduled to be completed for the start of the 2018-19 school year. JHL Constructors is the contractor for the project.
