AI in the Classroom

Our Guiding Principals

  1. We use AI to enhance relevant grade level learning experiences.
  2. We commit to using AI responsibly in ways that protect student privacy, promote academic honesty, and support student safety and well-being.
  3. We educate our staff and students on how to use AI safely and effectively, when to use it, and how it works.
  4. We explore the opportunities of AI while addressing its risks, such as misinformation, bias, ethics, and inequitable access.
  5. People are responsible for decisions when they use AI. Students and staff will critically evaluate AI-generated information, maintain ownership of
  6. all decisions, and be transparent about when and how AI tools are used.
  7. We encourage responsible AI experimentation to improve district operations, teaching, and learning.

Responsible uses of AI

FOR TEACHERS

Lesson planning:

Use AI to unpack standards and draft lesson plans or differentiation ideas.

Assessment:

Create assessments, design questions to identify misconceptions, and facilitate student feedback. Teachers are responsible for verifying AI content and knowing student needs.

Increase efficiency:

Use AI to draft and refine communication and streamline repetitive tasks.

FOR STUDENTS

Creativity and content creation:

Encourage students to use approved AI tools in moderation to brainstorm ideas, generate study materials, organize thinking, and spark creativity, while avoiding dependence or overuse.

Collaboration:

Generative AI can act as a learning partner that prompts critical thinking, provides instant feedback, and helps generate ideas rather than simply giving away answers.

Prohibited uses of AI

Academic dishonesty:

Students should not copy from any source, including generative AI, without prior teacher approval and adequate citation.

Bullying or harassment:

Using AI tools to manipulate media to impersonate others for bullying, harassment, or any form of intimidation is strictly prohibited.

Compromising privacy:

Only use district-approved AI tools. Sharing personally identifiable information (PII), such as names or photos, should be avoided whenever possible and is only permitted in tools with an active Data Privacy Agreement (DPA). Never enter confidential or sensitive information such as grades, IEPs/504s, health information, or passwords.

Replacing human judgment:

AI may generate inaccurate or biased information that affects academic or disciplinary outcomes. Always review outputs to keep “humans in the loop.”
