You are not alone. We can help.
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Act is a federal law that provides rights and protections to homeless children and youth.
McKinney-Vento Rights:
- Enroll without delay despite inability to provide customary documents
- Enroll in the local school or continue attending the school of origin
- Receive transportation to and from the school of origin
- Receive free lunch at school
- Receive referrals to community resources
Child Welfare Rights:
- Facilitation of Best Interest Determination meetings, when necessary, with a CWEL
- Immediate enrollment regardless of the ability to produce school records.
Student and Family Outreach Program (SFOP) can assist with enrollment, credit recovery, uniforms, transportation, school fees, school supplies, free lunch, Medicaid, CHP+, and SNAP applications for eligible students, and connections to community resources.
SFOP believes all students and families should have the resources and support they need in order to engage in the learning environment with equal access to academic and social success.
