Pathways to Programming for Gifted & Advanced Learners
In Adams 12 Five Star Schools, every school offers gifted programming services to meet the needs of our diverse gifted learners. Hulstrom K-8 is our district magnet school for Advanced Academics and Gifted Education. For more information regarding the GT programming at your child's school, please contact the Principal or GT Coordinator.
Educators apply GT theory and research-based models of curriculum and instruction, respond to student needs by planning, selecting, adapting, and creating relevant learning experiences, and use evidence-based instructional strategies to ensure specific student outcomes. Recognizing the learning and developmental differences of students with gifts and talents, educators also promote ongoing self-understanding, awareness of individual needs, and cognitive and affective growth of GT students in school, home, and community settings.
Gifted programming in Adams 12 is designed to help students navigate their growth and develop their full potential comprising four broad categories. Based on student need, schools may have different programming options within the GT Program Framework areas below.
Advanced Curriculum & Extended Learning provides the rigorous and challenging learning experiences necessary for meaningful academic growth for gifted and advanced learners through increasing the level of depth and complexity.
Differentiated Learning Pathways provide an education at the appropriate level of readiness and challenge through the content, process, product, or environment approach. Acceleration is a practice of differentiation which offers standard curricular experiences to students at a younger-than-usual age or lower-than-usual grade level. Acceleration includes grade skipping or subject acceleration, in which a student receives advanced instruction in one or more content areas.
Individualized Opportunities & Enrichment actively engages and motivates gifted and advanced learners through interests and relevant, purposeful learning opportunities turning "passion into purpose."
Social-Emotional Learning focuses on developing the whole child by balancing empowerment and accountability through addressing the unique individual, social- communication and leadership, and cultural competencies.
