Adams 12 Five Star Schools provide high-quality early childhood education opportunities that help young children acquire the learning approaches and developmental foundations necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond.  In Adams 12 Five Star Schools, a high-quality early childhood education is defined as developmentally appropriate, child-centered preschool programs that offer rich experiential learning opportunities in developmental and pre-academic domains.  These domains include cognition, social/emotional, physical, language, mathematics, literacy and science.  High-quality programming also means that families have opportunities to be meaningfully engaged in their child’s early education and in the operation of the preschool program.

The Instructional Approach

The instructional approach in the early childhood education program focuses on the child as an active learner, and adults as the facilitators of experiences.  Young children learn best through play-based activities that allow them to engage, experiment and explore.  Adults help children focus their play, asking key questions and offering ideas to extend play themes, creating learning opportunities for maximum benefit. Our staff are informed by the needs and interests of the children through ongoing assessment of development and learning.
