First phase of two-year renovation project on target for summer finish
The new Thunder Vista P-8 in Broomfield is now less than eight months away from welcoming its first students.
The rapid pace of work inside and outside the new 142,000 square-foot building is indicative of the fact that the opening of the school gets closer each day.
Bouts of cold, snowy weather could have put a damper on the first month of construction on the Arapahoe Ridge Elementary expansion in Westminster but, other than plenty of mud to navigate around, construction kept moving in January.
The main construction activity over the past month was the excavation of the spot where the two-story, 18,900 square-foot addition will be built. With that work done, the focus shifted toward the drilling of 75 foundational piers or caissons.
Water wreaked havoc on the first month of construction on the expansion of Cotton Creek Elementary in Westminster.
When construction crews excavated the massive hole on the northwest corner of the school to begin foundation work, they found the water table was higher than anticipated. The discovery prompted three tedious weeks of pumping water out of the hole and looking for a permanent solution to get foundation work going.
The first of two years worth of bond improvements planned at Horizon High School got under way over the recent winter break.
Aging wooden stairs and ramps to five mobile classrooms, located on the east side of the school campus, were replaced with aluminum stairs and ramps. The stairs and ramps, original to the installation of the mobile classrooms - had began to deteriorate and cause a safety hazard.
