District policy outlines parameters on political and campaign matters
As we draw closer to Election Day, Nov. 2, it’s important to keep in mind the legal parameters involved in election matters.
District Policy 8500, “Political and Campaign Matters,” outlines the expectations for employees and community members.
There is a specific protocol for the distribution of political and campaign literature on school grounds. While this is prohibited during the school day, such information can be distributed before or after the school day in a location and manner that’s established by the school principal in order to address traffic, safety and educational interests.
Information which promotes, favors or opposes ballot issues, ballot questions or candidates for public office cannot be sent home with students nor included in school newsletters.
Additionally, no political and/or campaign signs can be placed on or in district facilities. They also cannot be placed on district grounds.
