The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) awarded Adams 12 Five Star Schools its Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation during the 2017–2018 budget year. The Five Star District's receipt of this award for 13 years is a true reflection of its commitment to fiscal integrity.

The MBA promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and enhances school business officials' skills in developing, analyzing, and presenting a school system budget. After a rigorous review by financial professionals, the award is awarded only to school districts that have met or exceeded the program’s stringent criteria. Criteria includes skills in developing and analyzing an effective budget, communication between departments to develop short- and long-term strategies, clear budget guidelines, and building confidence in you community with a reader-friendly budget.

"We are honored to achieve this award, as it validates our best budgeting practices of collaboration and cooperation,  and setting clear guidelines and strategies. This award recognizes our skills in developing and analyzing an effective budget that resulted in a living document that is accurate and transparent," said Dana Miller, budget director.
