Pearson's data breach has minimal impact on district

Pearson is one of the largest publishers of digital and print textbooks

You may have heard that Pearson, the publisher of print and digital textbooks, experienced a data breach affecting more than 13,000 schools and universities. Fortunately, Adams 12 Five Star Schools was minimally impacted. The Pearson system in question is AIMSweb 1.0, a system that monitors students’ academic progress through frequent assessment. The district does not currently use AIMSweb 1.0.

Pearson recently notified us that the names of 47 elementary students from the 2011-2012 school year were involved in the data breach. No other information was accessed in the breach other than names.

We are making contact with the families of those 47 students. Pearson does not believe the data has been misused. If you have not been contacted by the district, your child’s data is not affected.

Please know that Adams 12 Five Star Schools is in compliance with the Colorado Student Data Privacy and Transparency Act, and obtains data protection agreements with contracted providers to protect student data.
