District announces policy updates for 2026-27 school year

District announces policy updates for 2026-27 school year

Before the start of the new school year, we want to make sure families, staff and students are aware of several policy and practice updates, effective this year:

  • Digital security (elementary): In order to improve digital security, the district is changing the way students log into their district accounts. Starting in August, students in kindergarten through 4th grade will not be able to log into their district accounts unless they are at school, even on personal devices.
  • Ordering school photos: To carry out essential school functions—like photography, yearbooks, and class rings—the district contracts with trusted partners who act on our behalf as designated “school officials.” The district will share parent/guardian email addresses with these school officials upon request. No other personally identifiable information from students’ education records will be shared.
  • District policy changes:
    • Field trip changes:
      • Field Trip Policy 6270 has been updated to reflect that student educational travel associated with an outside educational travel partner will be exclusively third-party sponsored.
    • To better support student privacy and align with changing practices among peer districts, the district is updating its overnight field trip practice to require that accommodations provide each student with their own bed.
  • Graduation Policy 6350: This policy has been updated to reflect that students may only participate in the graduation ceremony from the school from which they are receiving a diploma. Students and their guardians who wish to for the student to participate in more than one graduation ceremony must request an exemption in writing by Nov. 1.
