As we draw closer to Election Day, Nov. 5, it’s important to keep in mind the legal and district policy parameters involved in election matters. District Policy 8500, “Political and Campaign Matters,” outlines the expectations for employees and community members.
Distribution of campaign literature on school grounds is prohibited during the school day. Such information may be distributed before or after the school day in a location and manner that’s established by the school principal in order to address traffic, safety and educational interests.
Information which urges support for or against ballot issues, ballot questions or candidates for public office cannot be sent home with students nor included in school newsletters. Additionally no campaign signs can be placed on or in district facilities and grounds.
Refer to District Policy 8500 for additional details on expectations for employees and community members.
On Aug. 28, 2024, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education voted to place two measures on the November ballot; an $830 million bond for buildings and a $34.5 million mill levy override for operations. The district is allowed to share a factual summary of ballot measures of “official concern” to the district. You can find a factual summary of both measures here.
