Every school day matters for attendance!
- Leadership
Attending school daily not only helps students succeed academically, but it also helps them develop and improve social skills that they’ll use throughout life.
At Adams 12 Five Star Schools, attendance matters and showing up for school has a huge impact on our student’s academic success. That’s why we are working with state partners like the Colorado Department of Education and local partners like Adams County along with other school districts in Adams County to battle Chronic Absenteeism. Chronic Absenteeism is when a student misses 10% or more of their school days in a year, and research says 1 in 3 Colorado students are chronically absent.
Why does it matter if my kid is chronically absent?
Research shows that chronic absence can leave 3rd graders unable to read proficiently, 6th graders struggling with coursework, and high school students off track for graduation. These absences can cause consequences for students, families and society. Families play a key role in helping students get to school every day and understand that school attendance is so important to success in school and the future workforce.
Why Student Engagement and Attendance Matters
Stronger Economy: Good schools are key to creating a healthy and vibrant community that attracts businesses as well as new residents
Better Schools: School quality is an important consideration for families thinking about where they will live
Safer Communities: Better attendance and engagement in school means safer streets as youth stay in school and out of harm’s way
