New instructional materials up for consideration

The District Instructional Materials Review Committee is meeting on Feb. 14 from  noon to 4:30 p.m. to review new titles for adoption into district curriculum for certain classes. Students, parents and community members are invited to come to the Educational Support Center (1500 E. 128th Ave. Thornton, CO 80241) between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays before that date to take a look at these resources and share written feedback for the committee to consider. The new resources being considered are:

  • High School Social Studies

    • World History (National Geographic/Cengage)

    •  America Through the Lens (National Geographic/Cengage)

    •  American Government (National Geographic/Cengage)

  • High School English Language Arts

    •  Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

    •  I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika Sanchez

    •  Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

  • High School Health

    • Essential Health Skills for High School  and Human Sexuality to accompany Essential Health Skills for High School (Goodheart-Willcox, publisher)

  • Middle School English Language Arts

    • Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

    • Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick

What is the review committee? 

The committee meets to reach a consensus and make a recommendation to present to the superintendent. Click here to learn more about the process of selecting and reviewing instructional materials.

 

 The Committee consists of:

  • Chief Academic Officer or Designee

  • District level staff members with content expertise

  • School principals              

  • School teachers

  • Parents

  • Community members

  • Student representatives

  • Additional members with relevant expertise as appropriate

Criteria for Recommendation

  • Aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards, the Next Generation Science Standards, and/or the Adams 12 Five Star Schools curriculum for the content area under consideration

  • Aligned with the AP College Board or IB curriculum

  • Aligned with the defined 21st Century Skills for Colorado Learners
