Political and Campaign Matters: DOs and DON'Ts

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7

District Policy 8500 addresses political and campaign matters

As we draw closer to Election Day, Nov. 7, it’s important to keep in mind the legal and district policy parameters involved in election matters.

District Policy 8500, “Political and Campaign Matters,” outlines the expectations for employees and community members.

Distribution of political and campaign literature on school grounds is prohibited during the school day. Such information may be distributed before or after the school day in a location and manner that’s established by the school principal in order to address traffic, safety and educational interests.

Information which promotes, favors or opposes ballot issues, ballot questions or candidates for public office cannot be sent home with students nor included in school newsletters.

Additionally no political and/or campaign signs can be placed on or in district facilities. They also cannot be placed on district grounds.

Refer to District Policy 8500 for additional details on expectations for employees and community members.
