Seven schools earn performance awards from state

In May, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) recognized and celebrated the state's high-performing schools and districts who won performance awards in the 2023 and 2024 school years. Schools across Colorado received the following awards: Centers of Excellence, John Irwin School of Excellence, Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award, High School Academic Growth Award and Districts Accredited with Distinction.

In Adams 12 Five Star Schools, seven schools received a total of 15 awards. The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award goes to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth over time. The John Irwin Award goes to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time.

Five schools continued their excellence winning the same award for two consecutive years.

“It’s always inspiring to see schools leading the way with innovative approaches and a deep commitment to their students,” said Colorado Education Commissioner Susana Córdova about this year's school and district awards. “The awards for these schools and districts remind us what’s possible when educators, families, and communities work together to create meaningful opportunities for every learner.”

CDE selects award-winning schools based on their academic achievement, academic growth, reduction of academic growth gaps, and postsecondary and workforce readiness.
