State releases assessment results

State releases assessment results

The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has released results from the spring 2025 administration of the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), PSAT, SAT, and ACCESS, an assessment for multilingual learners.

Student performance on these assessments are measured in two ways: achievement and growth. Achievement measures how well students scored on the most recent test. Growth measures how student performance improved between the two most recent tests.

PSAT and SAT

The PSAT and SAT assessments measure student performance in Evidence-based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and Math for students in grades 9-11.

Achievement

Five Star students achieved similarly to their peers across the state.

  • District 9th graders outperformed the statewide achievement average overall and in both content areas.
  • District 10th and 11th graders performed above the state achievement in math and performed slightly below the state average in reading and writing.

Growth

The growth data showed room for improvement for the district. The state’s expectation for the median growth percentage is 50.

  • Evidence-based Reading and Writing: The district’s overall median growth percentage is 47 for 2025.
  • Math: The overall median growth percentage is 49 for 2025.

CMAS

The CMAS assessments measure student performance in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math for students in grades 3-8.

Achievement

  • Five of six grade levels saw higher achievement in English Language Arts when compared to last year. The district adopted a new elementary literacy curricular resource in 2022 with the goal of improving literacy instruction in grades K-5. In 2024-2025 K-5 classrooms implemented Benchmark Writing.  Teachers, coaches, and administrators participated in district wide professional learning using the Benchmark Writing.
  • Four of six grade levels saw higher achievement in math when compared to last year.

Growth

  • English Language Arts
    • The district’s elementary median growth percentile is 49 in 2025, a 3 point increase from 2024.
    • The district’s middle school median growth percentile is 47 in 2025, a 2 point decrease from 2024. The district is in the process of implementing a new literacy curriculum at the middle school level to ensure all students have access to rigorous, grade-level learning experiences in order to improve student achievement.
  • Math
    • The district’s elementary median growth percentile is 49, a 3 point decrease compared to the previous year.
    • The district’s middle school median growth percentile remained steady at 48.

ACCESS

The ACCESS assessment is administered to students learning the English language in grades kindergarten through 12. This assessment has been administered consistently over the past several years. Five Star students met or exceeded State average growth on ACCESS at the elementary, middle school and high school levels for the seventh consecutive year.
