Centennial collaborates with parents to celebrate books
- Collaborate
- Empower
Our Centennial Parent Teacher Organization, in collaboration with our Student Leadership Club, put together an amazing month of activities that celebrates reading.
Our student leaders were empowered to choose ideas and then share them with classrooms. Our Read Across America month long celebration consisted of guest readers, a Reading Challenge, free books, and homemade cupcakes (including gluten free) for all. Additionally, together they turned our school into the fantasy land of Dr. Seuss' world. Finally, they ensured that students in each classroom were given choice in who their guest reader was and in setting a class goal on how many books or pages they could read. At the end of the month, every class had the chance to earn a popcorn party for meeting their collective goal.
Our students are felt empowered, read a ton, and had fun, because of the support of our parents. We are so appreciative of this collaborative effort!
Special thanks to the Centennial Elementary community for submitting this Five Star Story.
This story exemplifies our ELEVATE Focus Area: Diverse Learning. Sharing stories of how students receive engaging learning experiences and the focused-attention they need through appropriate student-to-staff ratios and varied programming.
