Cotton Creek students send crayons to kids nationwide
- Collaborate
- Engage
Cotton Creek's ECO-Heroes club collected crayons for the past month to support the The Crayon Initiative. This program recycles used crayons and re-purposes them. They melt old crayons down, and create new large, three-sided crayons to give to hospitals all around the country. This unique, three-sided design is important as it makes the crayon easier to hold and it doesn't roll off a hospital tray.
In March, the Cotton Creek ECO Team, with the support of their sponsor, Jennifer Carpenter, sorted 7 five-gallon buckets full of used crayons donated by students!
They reached out to their local Staples store who volunteered to ship the recycled crayons back to The Crayon Initiative for free. The students also asked if a few packs of crayons could be shipped back to their school to be used in the Significant Needs program as a few of our students would benefit from crayons with this design. Thank you Cotton Creek students for engaging your community while caring for others!
