District High Schools sweep color guard State Finals

All five of our district's comprehensive high schools qualified for finals competition this spring, at the Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association State Championships! In order to qualify for finals, schools must finish in the top half of their class in preliminary competition.

  • Thornton High School is going on their second consecutive year as a winter guard program and was promoted out of the Novice (starting) division earlier this season into our state's largest division -- Scholastic Regional A. They finished in 12th place out of 25 competing schools in the Scholastic Regional A division with a score of 73.415.
  • Northglenn High School was the Scholastic Regional A class champion, coming off an undefeated season and in 1st place with a score of 86.405.
  • Horizon High School had a strong preliminary performance and clinched the last finalist spot in the Scholastic AA class by less than one-tenth of a point. They finished in 6th place out of 12 competing schools in the Scholastic AA division with a score of 72.055.
  • Mountain Range High School jumped onto the medalist podium in Scholastic AA class finals, taking 3rd place with a score of 75.220.
  • Legacy High School took 3rd place out of 12 schools with a score of 84.670 in Scholastic A, the second-highest division in the state. This arguably makes Legacy the current fourth strongest winter guard program in Colorado (there is one school that competes in a higher division).

This marks the first time in history where not only did each high school have a competing team -- but they all finished in the top half of their respective classes! This is a huge accomplishment and speaks to the district's investment in the performing arts and extracurriculars for our students.

Additionally, Westlake Middle School brought another state championship to the district this year, taking first place in the Middle School division with a score of 91.325! Legacy High School collaborates with the program over at Westlake to grow both programs and improve student outcomes at a competitive and expressive level.
