Family and Culture Fair is successful at Thunder Vista

On May 10th, Thunder Vista had their first annual Family and Culture Fair. Leading up to the event their multilingual students prepared posters about their families, cultures, and countries. Middle schoolers in their student leadership elective class, helped prepare a video of ELD students teaching their native languages as well as passports for families to stamp with flag stickers at the event. Families signed up to share food and to have tables to teach us about their cultures and for families to engage in activities. Students and families participated in many activities including getting henna tattoos, making origami, eating doubles and curry, having their names written in Arabic, and reading The Ramayana. Some of the countries represented were Jordan, Belarus, India, France, Japan, China, Trinidad and Tobago. It was wonderful to celebrate their school community.

This story exemplifies our ELEVATE Focus Area: Outside-the-Classroom Learning. Sharing stories about how the district offers students multiple learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom providing various pathways to success.
