Legacy named Special Olympics Unified Champion

On Friday, at their homecoming pep rally, Legacy High School was named a National Banner Unified Champion School by Special Olympics Colorado!

Legacy stands out as a national leader — one of only 12 high schools in the country to receive this elite designation.

This recognition is an honor and true testament to the hard work, dedication, and heart of the entire student body and staff

The National Banner status signifies that Legacy has successfully created an inclusive school climate that promotes meaningful engagement, collaboration and a deep sense of respect for every member of our community. To achieve this, schools must successfully meet 10 rigorous standards that are based upon three foundational components:

  • Special Olympics Unified Sports: Bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same team.
  • Inclusive Youth Leadership: Empowering student leaders to drive and sustain inclusive activities.
  • Whole School Engagement: Ensuring the message of inclusion is celebrated and woven into the fabric of the entire school.

This effort is truly a community one, implemented in coordination with each other and supported by a dedicated leadership team that includes students, teachers, administrators and parents.
