Making every celebration accessible at Northglenn Middle

At Northglenn Middle School, we pride ourselves on providing every student with the support they need to succeed, and that includes making sure families can fully participate in celebrating their child’s accomplishments.

During fall parent-teacher conference, Principal Sarah Stone learned that one of our students had an upcoming choir concert, and that the student’s parent, who planned to attend, is deaf. Recognizing the opportunity to make the event fully accessible, Principal Stone reached out to our district partner team to arrange sign language interpretation for the concert.

Thanks to the quick action of our dedicated registration specialist, Raven Bautista, the ASL district representative was contacted, and interpreters were scheduled to provide live interpretation during the performance. Our talented music teacher, Maggie Masciarelli collaborated by providing the lyrics to the songs and the words spoken by presenters, ensuring that the interpreters could deliver a seamless experience for the parent.

This collaborative effort allowed the parent to fully enjoy the concert, understand the lyrics, and follow along with all announcements, truly sharing in the excitement of their child’s performance.

At Northglenn Middle School, we are proud of our team’s commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and support for both our students and their families. Together, we ensure every student’s success is celebrated and every family feels valued.

Special thanks to the Northglenn Middle community for submitting this Five Star Story.
