Narcan training empowers Thornton High community

In alignment with the ELEVATE values of care, collaboration, empowerment and engagement, Thornton High School and Adams 12 Five Star Schools took meaningful action to support the health and safety of our students, families, and staff.

During Parent-Teacher Conferences at Thornton High, a collaborative team—including School Nurses, Wrap Around Facilitators, the District Substance Use Prevention Specialist, and Thornton High's administration—offered on-site Narcan training in English and Spanish to interested students and families. This life-saving training provided over 40 participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in the event of an opioid overdose. Each participant also received a free box of Narcan (naloxone), a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The image shows a group of people, likely school staff or administrators, standing behind a table and interacting with a visitor or student. The background includes various posters and displays, suggesting this is taking place in a school or educational setting.

This effort reflects our district-wide commitment to empowering our community with the tools and education needed to stay safe and informed. By engaging directly with students, families and staff, we are not only addressing a critical public health issue — we are elevating one another through knowledge and care.
