Our 5th grade North Star news team had the opportunity to visit CBS news in downtown Denver thanks to our wonderful health aide, Miss Nancie's, neighborhood connection!
Here is our story, as told by one of our 5th grade NSE News anchors, Marylee: "On December 18th, The North Star News, also known as NSE Newscast, went on a trip to CBS News. Before we got onto the bus, we met in the SEL room. We had to get some questions down on a piece of paper so we would remember what to ask when we got to the news station. After we got off of the bus, we took a picture right away which was really cute and silly, in my opinion. We entered through the doors and there were two people happy to meet us! We met Mr. Jud, the guy who showed us around (Miss Nancie's friend!). As we were explored the station, Mr. Jud was really kind yet silly when it came to talking with us. He continued to show us around and he gave us so much information about how the cameras and everything else worked. Soon we met some other camera guys. They were really cool too. They showed us how to hold a news camera and we took some more pictures! Then, he showed us the original CBS news and where it was recorded. We then met two more people that were a part of the cast! They were the morning news anchors, Michelle Griego and Brian Flores. They answered some questions about being on live TV and showed us around the seating area. There was a button under the desk that they could press and it would mute their mic so they could cough or sneeze! They also showed us their make-up baskets which they use to get ready each day and told us about how the lighting can be changed in the studio for different types of news. Next, we visited the newsroom where there were a lot of computers and people working to keep up with the news. We also saw the weather room but it was being re-done so we didn't go in. After that, Mr. Jud showed us some storage and the outdoor stage on the roof. Then it was time to leave! It was a really fun time! Honestly, I would love to go there again!"
