Northglenn students learn about the use of geochronology

TRaIL Research Scientist Cullen Kortyna is spearheading a project with Northglenn High School in Denver to introduce high school to geochronology and the geology of Colorado, specifically focusing on the Tava Sandstone injectites, rare remnants of Snowball Earth deposits in the continental interior. The students will help collect, prepare, and analyze samples of Tava from just outside of Boulder, and then work with Cullen and their geology teacher Kent Hups to interpret the data. This is the start of a multi-year relationship with Northglenn High School, and this past weekend Cullen lead the first field trip!

This story exemplifies our ELEVATE Focus Area: Outside-the-Classroom Learning. Sharing stories about how the district offers students multiple learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom providing various pathways to success.
