Office of Refugee Resettlement awards grant to district

Adams 12 has been awarded the Support 2 Schools Grant from the Office of Refugee Resettlement to support Afghan students and their families. Nearly half of the Afghan evacuees who have been resettled in Colorado since August of 2021 currently attend Adams 12 schools. These grant funds, totaling approximately $700,000, will allow Adams 12 to hire more Dari, Pashto, Urdu, and/or Farsi-speaking staff to assist newcomers in the classroom, as well as staff who will assist families in navigating the American educational system. In addition, funds will be utilized to provide school-level supports (orientation, translation, diverse educational materials, recreational enrichment opportunities, and family engagement activities), professional learning for staff around emotional health and cultural adjustment programming for students and families, and district-level supports to maintain good school attendance and access to community resources and health care.

This story exemplifies our ELEVATE Focus Area: Safe Schools. Sharing stories about how the district supports student learning by providing a safe and secure environment.
