SWAP students attend "Ready, Set, Explore" career event

On October 26th, 2023, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP) culminated several months of preparation and collaboration with six other local SWAP sites to hold a career exploration event, “Ready, Set, Explore” at the Adams County Fairgrounds.

The event was attended by about 40 SWAP students from the high schools and IMPACT transitions program.

The event featured 25 presenters from ten different career tracks.

Each presenter provided the students with a demonstration and discussion of the work their company performs, as well as information about career pathways. Many of the presenters featured hands-on activities representative of common tasks in their industry.

For the morning session, the students divided up into cohorts in their track of primary interest. After lunch…prepared in part by the students in the Food Service/ Hospitality track…the students were free to explore other areas.

The presenters recruited by Adams 12 Five Star Schools SWAP staff included:

  • Adolphson Peterson Construction
  • Encore Electric
  • CDM Smith Construction
  • UPS
  • Fowler Chevrolet
  • Colorado State Capitol Guest Services
  • Adams 12 Cybersecurity
  • Adams 12 Custodial
  • Adams 12 HVAC
  • Adams 12 Plumbing
  • Adams 12 Grounds

A special “shout out” to the departments that participated, as well as volunteers Kristina Nelleson and Hope Garcia! Thank you all for making this such a successful event, and helping our students learn more about careers!
