World Language teachers recognized at the State level

World Language teachers recognized at the State level

Governor Polis proclaimed February 2026 as World Languages Appreciation Month, stating that the State of Colorado "recognizes world language educators who demonstrate unwavering dedication, creativity, and passion in classrooms across the state, inspiring students to embrace linguistic diversity and broaden their horizons, and whose invaluable contributions strengthen our communities, advance educational excellence, and build bridges across cultures."

Two Horizon High School staff members recognized for the contributions to the world language teaching profession:

  • Jason Herrman, German teacher at Horizon, won the Colorado Congress for Language Teachers (CCFLT)  Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes the extraordinary performance of a Colorado world language teacher.
  • Lyanne Terada, instructional coach at Horizon and current past president of CCFLT won the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching and the Colorado Congress for Language Teachers Honorary Lifetime Member Award, which honors members who have made significant contributions to SWCOLT and to the language teaching profession.
