How ELEVATE Came to Be

Our year-long engagement process during the 2017-18 school year brought together over 7,000 parents, community members, students and staff to develop a new districtwide strategic plan.

Focused on building upon what was working well in our schools and the district, participants used a storytelling process to share about a time when the Five Star District and our schools “did right” by a student. This process allowed participants to collectively determine existing strengths of the district: Care, Collaborate, Engage, Empower and Focus on Students. These strengths shape our work and culture.

The sessions also allowed participants to envision new ideas to achieve hopes and dreams for the future. These ideas were then prioritized into six focus areas: 21st Century Learners, Diverse Learning, Outside-the-Classroom Learning, Safe Schools, Social-Emotional Learning, World-Class Staff.

The Board of Education approved ELEVATE as our strategic plan in 2018. Thanks to the generous Five Star community voters, 2018 ballot issue 5C passed providing education funding that will support all six focus areas of the ELEVATE plan.
