National Gratitude Month

National Gratitude Month

Date: This event has expired.

National Gratitude Month is an annual designation observed in November .

Gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you.” Gratitude’s amazing powers have the ability to shift us from focusing on the negative to appreciating what is positive in our lives. Practicing daily gratitude gives us a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us.

Everything in our lives has the ability to improve when we are grateful. Research has shown that gratitude can enhance our moods, decrease stress and drastically improve our overall level of health and well-being. On average, grateful people tend to have fewer stress-related illnesses and experience less depression and lowered blood pressure; they are more physically fit, they are happier, have a higher income, and have more satisfying personal and professional relationships.

If everyone practiced daily gratitude, we could change ourselves and the planet for the better.

What are you waiting for? Give gratitude a try!

America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day

Date: This event has expired.

America Recycles Day, a Keep America Beautiful national initiative, is the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. Each year, on and in the weeks leading into Nov. 15, thousands of communities across the country participate by promoting environmental citizenship and taking action to increase and improve recycling in America.

Through America Recycles Day, Keep America Beautiful and its vast network of affiliates and partners connects local communities to our national movement by directly engaging millions of people to recycle more and recycle right 365 days a year. America Recycles Day educates people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being, and helps motivate occasional recyclers to become “everyday” recyclers.

Take the “#BeRecycled” Pledge now, and begin planning your event for the next America Recycles Day!

And check out Keep America Beautiful's 2015 Recycling Impact Infographic, which demonstrates the collective impact of America Recycles Day and Keep America Beautiful's many other initiatives that aim to improve recycling!

Great American Smokeout

Great American Smokeout

Date: This event has expired.

About 36.5 million Americans still smoke cigarettes, and tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the world. While cigarette smoking rates have dropped (from 42% in 1965 to 15.1% in 2015), cigar, pipe, and hookah – other dangerous and addictive ways to smoke tobacco – are very much on the rise. Smoking kills people – there’s no “safe” way to smoke tobacco.

Quitting is hard, but people can increase their chances of success with help. The American Cancer Societyhas information about the steps people can take to quit smoking and provide quit-smoking programs, resources, and support that can increase the chances of quitting successfully.

You can find many resources to recognize the Great American Smokeout at the American Cancer Society website.
