Dear Adams 12 hockey families,
It is with great excitement that we announce that Adams 12 Five Star Schools will be launching a
high school hockey program in the 2028-2029 school year. The location of this program is still
to be determined, but it will be housed at one of our five comprehensive high schools. We have
been in communication with our partner hockey schools - Standley Lake and Monarch about this coming change. The original plan was to launch a hockey program in one year, but due to CHSM regulations
during a mid-cycle, we have had to move that launch date to the 2028-2029 school year.
For the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years, Adams 12 student-athletes will still have the
opportunity to participate in high school hockey through Standley Lake High School or Monarch High
School, as they have in the past, per the school without a program under Colorado State statute.
Beginning in the 2028-2029 school year, all Adams 12 student-athletes who attend an Adams 12 school
must transition to play for the new Adams 12 Five Star Schools hockey program.
State law allows students who attend a school without an ice hockey program to participate at a school in their district of residence or district of attendance. If neither of these districts offer a program, the student can then participate at the next closest school that offers the program OR a program in a contiguous district. Many of our families already know that a large number of Adams 12 student-athletes currently compete as part of the Standley Lake High School hockey program. Because the majority of the players on that team are Adams 12 students, Jeffco Public Schools will no longer be able to sustain that program after the next CHSM cycle with so many out-of-district participants. As a result, Adams 12 Five Star Schools will be creating our own hockey program to support and serve all of our student-athletes.
We are excited to share that Adams 12 Five Star Schools will be partnering with the Hyland Hills hockey
club as we build this new program. In addition, we will work closely with Standley Lake in support of this
partnership with Hyland Hills over the course of the next two years.
We are thrilled about this opportunity to grow athletics within our district and to create a program that will serve Adams 12 student-athletes for years to come and it was important to share this update with families now in case that impacts any future choices for hockey families.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Sincerely,
Kylie Russell
