Schools of Choice Program

All students in Adams 12 Five Star Schools are assigned to attend a specific school based upon the geographical attendance area of their residence. However, parents/guardians have other options based on a state law requiring open enrollment in all Colorado school districts when there is space available. If students wish to attend another school, they can apply through the district's Schools of Choice Program, apply for a school transfer (in-district students only) or apply for a schools extended day kindergarten program directly with the school.

Admissions to all schools for non-boundary students are managed by the Choice or Transfer processes (except for extended day kindergarten programs at neighborhood schools and the middle & high school programs that are not school-wide like Horizon SOAR, Legacy 2000, Mountain Range Global Studies, Northglenn STEM and PTECH, and Thornton IB Diploma Program). In-district students interested in attending high school programs that are not school-wide should apply directly with the program. Out-of-district students wishing to attend high school programs that are not school-wide must apply for both Choice and with the program. If the school is not open to Choice then the program is closed to out-of-district students.

The Choice status becomes null and void when a student withdraws from their Choice school.  When this occurs, the student must return to their boundary school if they return to the district at a later time.

Kindergarten

There are 4 kindergarten options in Five Star Schools.  Admissions are managed by the Choice program for three programs (extended day magnet kindergartens, half-day kindergartens and full-day Title I kindergartens).  Admissions for tuition-based extended day kindergarten programs at neighborhood schools are managed directly by schools.  For more information see our Kindergarten Program.
